Fred Maciel AKA Freddy Maciel was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. At age 12 moved with his family to the USA.
Living in Rockville Maryland he learned English and discovered Rock N' Roll. He started playing drums and guitar at the same time and all his spare time was all about sports and music.
After 3 years living in the US he moved back to Brazil with his family. At age 18 he already knew that music was going to be his professional career and started playing in Rio with numerous acts.
The first major gig came at age 20 with English singer "Ritchie" signed for Sony Music. On his debut album "Ritchie" made #1 on Brazilian charts and later as a record sales phenomenon. As a member of his band toured Brazil several times playing the most important venues in the country and also toured countries like Uruguay and Paraguay. Besides drumming he also developed skills as singer both lead and backing vocals becoming a versatile instrumentalist playing guitar, bass and keyboards. He also started to write and arrange his own music and lyrics.
He recorded with "Ritchie" one of his most important hit singles "Transas" and a few years later composed, arranged and performed for one of his albums "Pra Ficar Contigo" the song "Pra Valer" with lyricist "Paulinho Lima" famous for other hit songs.
Freddy also performed in studio with Brazil's top artist "Ney Matogrosso".
After almost two years performing with "Ritchie" he was invited to join one the most famous Brazilian Rock Bands "Herva Doce" that was signed to EMI Odeon. After joining "Herva Doce" he signed contract with RCA.
The first warm-up release was the single "Pica Pau" a cover song originally written by Brazil's all time greatest "Roberto Carlos" and "Erasmo Carlos".
"Herva Doce" first full length release for the new record company was the album "Amante Profissional" which included what became a huge hit single "Amante Profissional" that became one of the most successful hit singles of the 80's in Brazil. This song ended up having 3 different video-clips and some of them can be found on YouTube.
He gained quick notoriety playing for thousands of people, on huge and small arenas, for TV and radio shows allover the country.
Playing for "Herva Doce" gave him the opportunity of becoming a busy session player. He performed with top Brazilian artists such as: Cazuza, Erasmo Carlos, Blitz, Evandro Mesquita, Joao Penca, Sandy & junior, Zelia Duncan, Leo Gandelman, Os Trapalhoes, Leo jaime, Yahoo and others.
Also performed for a special TV Tribute Show to Brazil's late great "Raul Seixas" this performance was for a packed Pacaembu Stadium (40,000 people) for Globo TV Network Latin America's largest TV Network and the fourth largest in the world. This TV show was called "Bau do Raul" for a montly special called "Som Brasil", playing for the house band with top Brazilian artists such as: Leandro e Leonardo, Chitaozinho e Xororo, Alceu Valenca, jerry Adriani, Deborah Blando, Chrystian & Ralf, Zeze de Camargo e Luciano, Adriana Calcanhoto to name a few.
He was the lead singer for the TV series "O Fantastico Jaspion" a Japanese TV super hero for Manchete TV Network. This show was a huge success in Brazil. Today Freddy still receives messages from Jaspion fans of different age groups and you can find many of the series episodes on YouTube.
After 3 years he left "Herva Doce" and joined "Lobao". "Lobao" was signed to RCA and putting together his best band to date on support of his latest release "Vida Bandida" which became the best rock gig in Brazil for nearly 2 years straight. The debut show was a sold out concert at Canecao one of Rio's most traditional venue filled with Brazilian celebrities. The show was also a TV Special for Manchete TV Network and can be searched on YouTube.
After Touring with "Lobao" he returned to "Ritchie" for a short tour than played national tours with famous actor and singer "Evandro Mesquita". And also with top rock acts such as "Blitz", "Yahoo" and famous singer "Leo Jaime".
After a long period touring with these artists he came to the USA to study Drums/Percussion at "Grove School Of Music". During this period he had the opportunity of writing the lyrics and singing for "Larry Luisa Dunn” Japanese release "Danca do Amor". "Larry Dunn" is a world famous artist and producer. His band "Earth, Wind & Fire" is a multi platinum artist with important music awards. Later on he returned to Brazil and started working in studio composing and arranging music scores for TV.
He has composed and arranged for many TV shows and Soap Operas, which are very popular in Brazil. Worked for TV Networks such as Bandeirantes TV Network, SBT TV Network and Globo TV Network. Also wrote songs for the yearly telethon "Crianca Esperanca", with participation of several artists, collecting funds for children in need.
Today he resides in Los Angeles, CA playing for the LA based Alternative Rock band "The Faded", one of the most known bands of the so called Sunset Strip.
Recently the band wrote the original score for the film Skin Trade of the award winning director Shannon Keith. Skin Trade recently premiered at Paramount Pictures Studios.

The Faded is currently working on the songs for the new CD and releasing the new video and track "Leave Out All The Rest".
Lately Freddy has also been involved in donating some of his time to his community as a Certified AYSO Soccer Coach.
AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are volunteers. Over 220,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific experience.
